Description

Thailand has been implementing the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement since 1974 and signed the Additional Protocol in 2005 to affirm the transparency of peaceful use of nuclear energy. The legal framework was restructured in order to strengthen the national nuclear regulation. The Nuclear Energy for Peace Act (2016) displays a numerous changes from the previous Atomic Energy for Peace Acts (1961 and 1965) to insure that Thailand has effective law and regulations to enable implementing safety, safeguards and security. The IAEA Model Additional Protocol, recommendations and guidance were taking into account during the drafting process of the Act and subsidiary regulations. The details of updated Thailand regulatory framework regarding Nuclear Safeguards and Additional Protocol will be provided in this paper.
