Description

Abstract: The obligations related to the implementation of the Comprehensive Safeguard Agreements associated with the NPT have begun to be systematically addressed by a competent national regulatory structure with the creation of the “Autorité sénégalaise de Radioprotection et de Sûreté nucléaire (ARSN)” in 2011 in Senegal. As a result we can note the ratification by Senegal of the Additional Protocol to the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreements on July 24, 2017 and the submission of its initial report. The purpose of this article is to describe the efforts made by the country with the help of the IAEA, US DOE and the NGO VERTIC for effective implementation of the modified Small Quantities Protocol as well as for the ratification of the Additional Protocol and its implementation. The experience gained in training inspectors of the regulatory authority, inventory of nuclear material and sensitization of different national stakeholders may be useful to States that share a similar situation with Senegal.
