Description
Georgia has taken significant steps for the implementation of safeguards agreement. In 2016, with the support of the IAEA, National training “Implementation of Safeguards in Georgia" was conducted encompassing theoretical and technical part (spectroscopy, searching). A legislative act has been adopted defining the rights and obligations of the Government as well as licensees - “Procedures for Carrying out Nuclear Non-Proliferation Safeguards”. Seminars for the organisations in possession of Nuclear Materials were conducted to review and implement the mentioned document. In 2016 Georgia has exported a highly enriched nuclear material to the producing country, thus becoming a HEU free state. US NRC has supported the introduction of “NUCMAT” software for accountancy and control of Nuclear Materials.
