Description

The objective of this article is to explain the efforts for supporting establishment of national safeguards system in the Middle East area by the Korea Institute of Nuclear Nonproliferation and Control (KINAC). The importance of exchange of information on SSAC and national safeguards system through bilateral cooperation with newcomer countries which are unfamiliar with safeguards increases more and more in that not only UAE but also Saudi Arabia jump into nuclear energy program. The paper would be developed in the following ways; Firstly, the brief history of supporting activities of the Republic of Korea(ROK) to the countries in the Middle East region for their safeguards-related needs will be touched. Secondly, the detailed efforts of the ROK to contribute the establishment of national safeguards system in the Middle East region. Thirdly, the detailed analysis of safeguards-related needs through infrastructure development milestone approach will be touched. Finally, the future contribution plan of the ROK to support capacity building of newcomer countries in the field of safeguards will be covered.
