The increasing number of mining products in Indonesia impacts increasing radioactive associated mineral products as the rest of the mining products. This can potentially spread radiation hazards that threaten the safety of workers, communities, and the environment. Meanwhile, there still needs to be a higher level of awareness of the potential dangers related to the processing of mining products that almost always produce radioactive-associated minerals such as uranium and thorium. To ensure the safety of workers, the community, and the environment, special arrangements are needed to be related to the existence of associated mineral products containing uranium and thorium in processing mining products. Furthermore, it is necessary to conduct technical studies related to the safety aspects of the mining processing process.
The purpose of this study is to obtain limits on the level of radiation safety and national energy security in the form of the availability of state assets in the form of reserves of uranium and thorium materials in the future. The methodology is literature study, discussion and coordination with resource persons, and field studies to support facilities. This paper also discusses the potential dangers that may arise. By considering several related aspects, the results of discussions, and references to content limits from other countries, finally, the author concludes that the limit of mineral content associated with uranium and thorium is 500 ppm.
