Description

The research strategy of the Swiss Federal Nuclear Safety Inspectorate ENSI contains several objectives, which refer to the competence and independence of expertise ENSI needs to fulfil its duties: - Maintaining and expanding ENSI's own expertise and that of ENSI's external specialists; - Developing independent expertise by preferring research projects carried out by specialists who will also be able to undertake expert work for ENSI without conflicts of interest at a later stage; - Fostering international integration through research projects like benchmarks in which ENSI and/or its experts participate; - Making ENSI more attractive to new employees by establishing a key function for ist specialists to follow Research Projects. The regulator’s research programme can have a significant impact on competent and independent expertise. The key to this is anticipating future supervisory needs.
