Young Generation Event

FR26 Young Generation Event

The future of fast reactors and advanced fuel cycles will be shaped by today’s emerging leaders, and the Young Generation Event at the International Conference on Fast Reactors and Related Fuel Cycles (FR) 2026, organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency, is designed to spotlight and support that talent.

This dedicated Young Generation Event will feature two high-impact components aimed at recognizing excellence and accelerating early careers.

1. Young Generation Paper Recognition & Travel Support
From the technical papers already submitted to the conference, the highest-scoring contributions led by young professionals will be selected for special recognition. As part of this distinction, selected authors will receive funded travel to and from the conference, ensuring their work is presented on an international stage. This initiative highlights outstanding innovation in fast reactor systems, advanced fuels, and fuel cycle technologies - while removing financial barriers to participation. The winners will receive a special IAEA certificate of recognition.

2. Two-Hour Young Generation Career Panel
In addition, all interested young attendees are invited to participate in a dynamic two-hour panel session focused on career development in the fast reactor community. The session will feature leaders of all levels of experience from research organizations, industry, and international institutions who will share insights on navigating early career pathways, building technical credibility, publishing and presenting effectively, securing funding, and transitioning between academia, laboratories, and industry. The format will encourage open discussion, practical advice, and candid experience-sharing.

Submissions will be reviewed by members of the International Scientific Program Committee of the Conference. Submitted papers will be evaluated anonymously and without regard to nationality, gender, or occupation of the applicant.

How to participate?

If you would like to be considered for either of the Young Generation Event activities, please email the conference organizers at the FR26 Young Generation Event email fr26-yge@iaea.org expressing your interest, which component (1, 2, or both), along with your current company affiliation, country, gender identity, and paper ID, if applicable by 31 March 2026.
