Description

The deployment of SMRs presents unique security challenges that necessitate a re-evaluation and adaptation of Norway's existing nuclear regulatory framework. This paper aims to systematically analyse the modifications required in Norway’s nuclear regulatory framework to specifically address the security aspects of SMRs. It will focus on the critical areas of licensing processes, security protocols, and the incorporation of international security standards and best practices into national policies. Emphasis will be placed on tailoring these adaptations to the unique security needs posed by SMRs, especially in the context of their potential deployment in remote and sensitive locations within Norway.
