The State Program of the Russian Federation “Development of the Nuclear Energy Industrial Complex” considers implementation of a pilot industry project “Construction of a low-power nuclear power plant based on the RITM-200N reactor”.
In 2022, the Russian Regulatory authority Rostechnadzor received
an application for siting license for unit No. 1 of the Yakutsk low-power nuclear power plant. Safety analysis documentation was provided in accordance with the national regulatory framework and assessed with a primary focus on site specific conditions.
In 2023, Rostechnadzor issued a siting license for unit No. 1 of the Yakutsk low-power nuclear power plant, based on the result of safety assessments conducted. The license conditions contain requirements on further investigation of NPP site specifics, in order to eliminate violations noted in safety analysis documentation.
The subsequent step of the installation life stage will require adequate supervision arrangements considering site and construction specifics.
