Description
localization and industry nationalization policy has been adopted few years ago in which the localization percentage has been set to be at a minimum of 20% of project budget.
A comprehensive survey of the national industry and other possible suppliers for Jordan NPP has been conducted based on two nuclear power reactors of 1000MWe each. Currently, and due to market demand dynamics, the potential for large reactors has been postponed. Instead, JAEC and other shareholder working on technical & economic assessment to down-select to the most viable SMR options to be used mainly for desalination purposes.
local suppliers such as electrical, mechanical industries and civil construction companies should adapt to the new changes toward SMRs option, considering the difference of needs of the two types of technologies, as well as the new aspects of SMRs like modular approach for this novel nuclear industry, which will make new challenges for local suppliers since they should compete in a commercial basis in terms of price and quality, otherwise the SMRs option could Identify new potential areas and opportunities.
