Description

In response to the unique challenges presented by water scarcity and specific meteorological conditions in Jordan, this paper explores the adoption of dry cooling systems for Small Modular Reactors (SMRs). Given the country's arid climate and critical water shortage, the paper evaluates the viability and benefits of gas-cooled reactors and dry cooling technologies as sustainable solutions for inland SMR Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs). Focusing on Jordan's operational experience of dry cooling systems in thermal power plants, this paper aims to study and analyze dry cooling technology and its applicability to NPP, addressing technical considerations. The analysis underscores the importance of innovative cooling solutions in minimizing water usage without compromising the operational efficiency and safety of nuclear power plants. By examining the potential of dry cooling systems to meet the challenges of Jordan's water scarcity and environmental conditions, this research contributes valuable insights into the development of water-efficient nuclear energy solutions, offering a model for similar arid regions globally.
