Description
In many countries there is active consideration of floating NPPs, which can provide a reliable supply of energy far out to sea, or on an island, or in a coastal community. China is the third country to build a floating reactor, after the US and Russia. In 2016, China planed to build a demonstration floating NPPs and then install as many as 20 to provide power for offshore oil and gas exploration and production, or even to provide grid scale electricity production. A safe and secure offshore power supply system will play a significant role in the future. The paper reviews the progress of floating NPPs projects in China, and presents viability and potential applications prospects of such an installation in China based on the analysis of current development situation, and what role they could play in the fight against climate change . In addition, issues and challenges related to floating NPPs are discussed and summarized.
