International Essay Competition on Nuclear Security for Students and Early Career Professionals

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in cooperation with the International Nuclear Security Educational Network (INSEN) is organizing the 2020 IAEA International Essay Competition on Nuclear Security for Students and Early Career Professionals to be presented at the International Conference on Nuclear Security: Sustaining and Strengthening Efforts (ICONS 2020) — at its headquarters in Vienna, Austria, from 10 to 14 February 2020.

Submission of Abstracts

Students and early career professionals up to 35 years of age are invited to submit innovative and original essays on the topic “Future of Nuclear Security: Sustaining and Strengthening Efforts”. Finalists in the essay competition will be invited to travel to Vienna, Austria, to present at a side event to the IAEA’s ICONS 2020.

Anyone wishing to present a paper at the conference — either orally or in the form of a poster — must submit an abstract up to 1000 words in electronic format through the "Call for Abstracts" page linked on your left. Paper copies cannot be accepted. Please refer to the updated guidelines on this process, linked at the bottom of this page.

Key Deadlines and Dates

  • 10 June 2019: Opening of abstracts submission through IAEA-INDICO
  • 06 September 2019: Closing electronic submission of abstracts through IAEA-INDICO
  • 30 September 2019: Notification of acceptance of abstracts
