Description

Naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM) accumulated in gas and oil production systems in the form of scale and sludge deposit during the production process ، causes the potential radiation risk to workers, the general public and the environment if appropriate measures are not taken .The radionuclide identified in gas and oil streams belong to the decay chains of the naturally occurring primordial radionuclides U-238 and Th-232. In this study, we discussed the information on the NORM waste in the oil and gas industry in the Basrah oil company. radiological measurements for Several samples of NORM waste from Basrah oil Company by using HPGe detector , we found that the radioactivity concentration of radium-226 in the samples is the highest compared to the rest of the other radionuclides that have been detected, including (Pb-212, Pb-214, Bi- 214, Ac-228, K-40) This is fully consistent with the literature and publications of the IAEA .
