Speaker

Description

There is a large and diverse range of industries involved in mining and mineral processing as well as the production of fossil fuels in the Russian Federation. It is also known that the minerals and raw materials contain radionuclides of natural origin. The paper provides an overview of the present state of the regulatory approach to the safety management of naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM) in the Russian Federation. Regulatory documents for the safety management of NORM radioactive waste (RW) from non-nuclear industries are considered. The issues of safety regulation associated with such industrial activities as well as the further prospects for their decision making involving aspects for the safety management of RW from rare-earth metals and niobium Tomtor ores processing of the Buranny area at the Krasnokamensk hydrometallurgical facility site are shown.
